Terms of Service
These terms govern illustratedyou.com and the personalized pet books offered by Illustrated You, whether you buy directly from us or through our Amazon listings. By using the site or placing an order, you agree to these terms — and, if you bought on Amazon, to the marketplace terms that also apply to that purchase.
Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter a binding agreement to place an order or submit personalization. The products and ordering tools are intended for adults, even when a book is purchased as a gift for a child.
Products and how you can buy them
Illustrated You creates personalized hardcover storybooks starring a customer's own pet. We sell them through two channels, and which one you used decides which of the two sections below applies to your order.
Orders placed on Amazon
Products offered through Amazon Custom are seller-fulfilled. Amazon processes the marketplace transaction, and its applicable terms and policies also govern the order. Product details, price, availability, and delivery estimate shown on the Amazon listing at checkout control if they differ from general information on this site.
Orders placed on this site
When you order directly from illustratedyou.com, Illustrated You is the seller and there is no marketplace in between: your contract is with us, and these terms are the ones that govern it. The price, product details, and delivery estimate shown at checkout control if they differ from general information elsewhere on this site. Prices are in US dollars and exclude any sales tax, which is calculated and shown at checkout where it applies.
Payment is processed by Stripe. Your card details go directly to Stripe and are never received or stored by us. Placing an order is an offer to buy; the order is accepted when we confirm it by email, and we may decline an order — refunding any payment in full — if we cannot produce it, if the submitted content breaks the rules below, or if the listing carried an obvious pricing error.
Production begins quickly, which is what limits cancellation. Each book is illustrated and printed for one pet, so once it has gone to print there is nothing to cancel into. If you need to cancel, contact support as soon as possible: we will cancel and refund in full if we reach the order before it enters production, and we will tell you honestly if we did not. That is a genuine effort, not a guarantee of a window.
We ship to United States addresses. Risk of loss passes on delivery to the address you gave at checkout — if a book is lost or damaged in transit, that is ours to fix, and the replacement commitment below covers it.
Your personalization
You are responsible for checking the pet name, photo, dedication, and every other submitted field before ordering. You confirm that you own the submitted content or have permission to use it and that it does not violate privacy, publicity, copyright, trademark, or other rights. You may not submit unlawful, abusive, hateful, sexually explicit, misleading, or infringing content.
You grant Illustrated You and the providers working for us a limited, non-exclusive license to process the submitted content solely to review, produce, fulfill, and support your order. We may reject unusable or prohibited submissions; where that happens on an order placed here we cancel it and refund you in full, and on an Amazon order we handle it as the applicable marketplace rules permit.
Your account
You can order from this site without an account. If you create one, keep your password to yourself and tell us promptly if you believe someone else has access to it. We may suspend or close an account that is used to break these terms. Closing an account does not by itself cancel an order already in production, and we keep the business records described in our Privacy Policy.
Order tracking links we email you are credentials: anyone holding the link can see that order's status. Treat a tracking email the way you would treat a receipt, and ask us for a fresh link if you think an old one has been seen by someone it should not have been.
AI-assisted illustrations
The book uses AI-assisted illustration and lettering. The artwork is a storybook interpretation, not a photographic reproduction. We review books for recognizable characteristics and production quality, but normal artistic variation is not a defect when the delivered book matches the personalization submitted with the order.
Made to order, and replacements
Every book is illustrated and printed for one specific pet, so it cannot be restocked or resold and we do not accept change-of-mind returns. That includes deciding you no longer want it, disliking a personalization choice you submitted, or submitting the wrong name, wording, or photo. Please check every field before you order. Damage that happens after the book reaches you — a spill, a drop, ordinary wear from being read — is not something we replace either.
Check your book when it arrives — if it turns up damaged, misprinted, badly bound, or not the book you ordered because of a mistake on our side, tell us straight away with photos and we will replace it free. We do not set a claim window and we do not need one: the promise is about the condition the book arrives in, so the moment to tell us is when you open it. For an order placed here, use our support page or email support@illustratedyou.com. For an Amazon order, start in Your Orders on Amazon and message us there, which keeps the claim attached to your order record. The complete rules are in our Replacement Policy.
If you bought through Amazon, you keep your Amazon return and A-to-z Guarantee rights. Whichever channel you used, you keep any non-waivable consumer rights under applicable law, and where those require a different remedy, that remedy controls.
Our intellectual property
You retain your rights in the photo and text you submit. Illustrated You retains its rights in the brand, website, software, story templates, layouts, production methods, and non-customer-specific artwork. Buying a book gives you the physical copy for personal use; it does not transfer commercial reproduction or resale rights in our protected materials.
Website use
You may use the site only for lawful personal purposes. You may not interfere with the site, bypass access or security controls, scrape it at unreasonable volume, introduce malicious code, impersonate another person, or use the service to violate another person's rights.
Disclaimers and limits
We work to keep the site accurate and available, but prelaunch content, availability, and features may change. To the fullest extent permitted by law, the website is provided without implied warranties and our total liability arising from a product or order will not exceed the amount paid for that order. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages. These limitations do not apply where applicable law does not allow them and do not limit the replacement commitment stated above.
Governing law and changes
These terms are governed by California law, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, except where mandatory consumer law provides otherwise. We may update these terms as the service changes; the date above identifies the current version.
