How we check
Before anything prints, a person opens your photo next to every page and checks the things that make your pet theirs: the shape of the face, the set of the ears, each marking, the collar, the way they hold themselves. A page that drifts is painted again, not shipped. And if the book that arrives still is not them, we repaint it or refund you.

What happens in it
The story
Your pet wakes on a birthday morning to a lawn already dressed for a party, and to the one rule of birthdays: the wish is kept all year and told to nobody. The guests arrive across the morning — two swans, a kingfisher, three frogs with a song they have nearly learned — and every one of them guesses the wish and is told nothing. The smallest guest, Dot the snail, is still on her way across the grass, and every year the party is over before she gets there. By the afternoon the others are laughing about it, kindly. Your pet is not. Your pet leaves the cake and the song behind, walks the length of the lawn, sits down in the grass beside her, and sends word that the party can come to them. It does, over the water, cake and all. But out by the pond the wind will not drop, and not one candle can be lit. So when the first star comes out, your pet does the one thing a wish is never supposed to survive: says it out loud, and gives it to Dot. Her candle is the star on the water, which no wind can blow out — and the party, song and cake, finally happens with the smallest guest there in time.

Is it only for the pet’s birthday?
In the story it is your pet’s birthday — one party, one cake, one wish. Given for a child’s birthday it works just as well: the child’s own animal is the one with the party, and the dedication page is yours to write, so the happy birthday can be theirs. And because the day it tells is about waiting for the smallest friend, it reads on any evening of the year, not only the one with the cake.
What does my pet actually do in the story?
Everything the hero does: keeps the wish, makes the biggest splash, carries a strawberry down the lawn, walks away from the cake to sit with the snail, sends for the whole party, and gives the wish away on the first star. Every scene is painted from your photo, with the markings and coloring that make your animal recognizable carried through all of it.
We have a rabbit, a bird, a horse — not a dog. Does it still fit?
Yes. Every scene is written so any animal that can spend a summer day on a lawn can play it — the splash, the strawberry, the sitting in the grass beside a snail. A dog leaps into the shallows; a cat slaps the water once, outraged; a rabbit stamps a foot at the edge. The book is the same book, and the hero is whichever animal is yours. A fish, or any pet that cannot spend a summer afternoon out on the grass, cannot star in this one; a tortoise, a hen, or a lizard that comes out onto the lawn can.
How early should I order for a birthday?
Every book is made to order and takes about two weeks door to door, so order about three weeks before the day. If the birthday is closer than that, the faster shipping offered at checkout can still make it, and the arrival date shown there for your address is the one that counts.
Will the illustrated character look like my pet?
You will see before you pay. Upload one photo and we paint their cover, free, in about a minute — if it is not them, paint it again or try another photo, and you have spent nothing. In the book we keep the details that make them theirs: face shape, ears, coloring and markings, carried through every page. A sharp, well-lit photo of their face gives the best likeness, and a person on our team compares the finished pages to it before printing. If the pet inside the book is not the pet on the cover you approved, we repaint it or refund you.
What makes a good photo?
One pet, facing the camera, in good light — daylight near a window is ideal. We work from what we can actually see, so a photo where the face, coloring, and markings are sharp gives the best likeness. Avoid heavy shadow, a busy background, a costume, or a photo with two pets in it. A phone picture is completely fine; it just needs to be in focus and not cropped so tightly that the head is cut off.
Is the artwork made with AI?
Yes. We generate the illustrations with AI from the photo you upload — it is not painted by hand on paper. Every book is checked by our team before it goes to print, and we never use your photos to train AI models.
What happens to the photo I upload?
It is used to make and check your book, and then we keep it — your photo, what you typed, and the files painted from them — so we can reprint your book if something goes wrong and make your next one without asking for the same photo twice. Ask us to delete it whenever you like: email support@illustratedyou.com, or ask us to close your account. No public gallery, no advertising without asking you first, never used to train AI models.
