The story
A wet afternoon. A very good band.
An outdoor parade sounds like the perfect plan, until rain takes over the garden. Your pet finds a wooden board under the porch roof and sets about making an even bigger noise. A small tortoise called Nell has something to contribute, but louder is not helping anybody hear her. When the tapping finally stops, the weather offers a new idea: separate sounds, answering one another. The band begins to take shape, yet Nell’s delicate scrape still disappears under the favorite thock. Making a place for her will mean leaving out the biggest moment and waiting longer than expected. Then the rain stops, and the players must discover who can lead without it. The afternoon ends with a duet they would rather finish than abandon for the original parade. Full of sounds to try aloud, this is an energetic making-things story with a small, practical act of kindness at its center.
Who it’s for: For ages 2–6, kitchen drummers and families who make their own fun when outdoor plans change. A birthday or everyday gift for a child who loves their pet and a good rhythm.
Questions
Is this a bedtime story?
It is a playful afternoon story with taps, pauses and sounds to join in with. It ends contentedly, but the pleasure is making music together rather than settling to sleep.
Does the quiet character have to become louder?
No. Nell keeps her small sound. The pet changes the rhythm and leaves space for her, then takes a turn following her lead.
Does my pet need to hold or play an instrument?
The playing surfaces stay flat on the porch. The story uses a gentle natural tap or contact, with no sticks to grasp or tricks to perform. Water-only animals are not suited to this setting.
What do I get for $69.99?
A 40-page 8.5-inch square hardcover, printed just for you. Your pet is the star of every picture, and their name is on the cover. A page at the front has a note in your own words. A real person checks the book before it prints. Shipping in the U.S. is free. If it arrives damaged, we send a new one for free.
Can I see more than the cover first?
Yes, one page. After the cover, you can see one page from inside the book with your pet in it, free. We paint the rest after you order. A real person checks every picture against your photo before it prints.
What makes a good photo?
One pet, facing the camera, in good light. Daylight near a window is best. The face, colors and markings should be sharp. Skip heavy shadows, busy backgrounds and photos with two pets. A phone photo is fine.
Is the art made with AI?
Yes. We make the pictures with AI from the photo you send. They are not painted by hand. A real person on our team checks every book before it prints.
What happens to my photo?
We keep it, with what you typed and the art we made. That way we can reprint your book if something goes wrong, and make your next book without a new photo. To have it deleted, email support@illustratedyou.com, or ask us to close your account. No public gallery. No ads without asking you first. We don’t train AI on your photos, and we set up the AI services we use so they don’t train their general AI models on them either.
